Dear Family and Friends,

Sister Camille Gamboa's birthday is coming up on January 6th! It seems like a long time from now, but it will be here before I know it. I would like to give her a surprise for her birthday, and since she will only have about 4 months left of her mission after her birthday, there isn't much she would need as far as physical gifts.

I would like to send her a gift from all of us! My plan is to send her a box filled with notes from everyone she knows--old friends, new friends, family, distant relatives, acquaintances, friends of friends...anyone who knows Camille! If you would help out with this, I would greatly appreciate it, and I know that she would love it!!

So please send me ANY kind of note you would like to send to Camille, and I will gather it all together, wrap it up in a box, and send it to her for a wonderful birthday gift. It can be a special memory you have with Camille, a birthday wish, words of advice, inspirational thoughts, your favorite quote, photos, a card, a secret message, a recipe, a newspaper clipping....anything you would like to send her for her birthday. The more, the better, so please include your family members or anyone else you can think of that knows Camille. Your help will make this an AMAZING birthday surprise for her!

I would like to get this in the mail at least three weeks before her birthday, so please send it to me by December 6th. You can email me a note for her or mail it to me at my home:
2424 San Antonio Crescent West, Upland, CA 91784
Or call me and we can make some other kind of arrangements.

Thank you so much for helping to make this a wonderful birthday for Camille. I know that she will remember it long after her mission, and your kindness will be treasured always. We have been very blessed with so many great friends and family members; it will be fun to put everyone's birthday wishes for her together in one box. And thank you so much for your prayers and support for Camille as she serves her mission in Chile. She has had many successes as well as some tough times, but I know that she is being blessed everyday.

With love,
Suzie
(Camille's mom)
P.S. As I mentioned, please pass this email along to anyone else who knows Camille. I don't have as many email addresses as I would like. Thanks!!

Holas…
I am forwarding some pictures from 18 de Septiembre in Santa Sabina. It is lie the 4th of July but way cooler because they get sooo into it. They all dress up like traditional Chileans and there are 2 types…the elegant dress up and the peasant one. I dressed up like a peasant one and my compañera like the elegant one. It was pretty awesome! It was probably my most fun day on the mission. We brought a lot of people with us and it was good for people to get to know the church and the members.
Besides that everything else is going just great. Hermana Egbert and I are just trying to stay warm in these last few days of winter: ) Oh and I am sending a pic of us with Suyai, this girl we are teaching as well : )

Feliz Septiembre: )
So as this week marked the beginning of March (which is the month in which Chile celebrates it’s independence) everything here is now decorated red, white, and blue (there flag has the same colors). It’s really cool to see them all get so excited for the big celebration (the 18th). I’m looking forward to celebrating with them.
I am still very happy to be here in Santa Sabina. The ward is absolutely amazing and there are parts of this city that remind me a lot of North Upland...so I feel right at home. The sector is a lot smaller than the one in Constitución but the city is a lot bigger. The work is way different...finding new people to teach and teaching them, etc. Their needs are just so different than the needs of the people in Constitución. And since I was their for 9 months, it was kind of hard to adjust. But I feel like I am finally getting the hang of things and I am really excited because I feel like there is a LOT of potencial here.
Well I hope everyone is enjoying the fall!

Hello!
So we have been VERY blessed in Consti with amazing sunny weather for the past few weeks! Yay! I am sure that there will be rain this winter but it’s just coming later.
So I found out today that I am staying in Consti for another 6 weeks! That means I will be here for 9 months…half my misión! But I am excited and a little nervous. Mostly because my new companion will be a brandnew one! Which means that there will be 4 of us again in Consti. Crazy. I will know more about her net week.
This week we made bread with a family we are teaching. We made it without a bread machine, without a mixer, and without even an oven!! We honestly put it over a fire we built ourselves! It was awesome!
I am sending a picture of Cecilia who we have been sharing with. Her pololo (boyfriend) is there with her. They met becuase of us! Haha.
Well I love and miss you all!
Hermana Gamboa

Hola!
I don’t have too much time to write but I thought I would send some pics. (Mostly for any ex missionaries who might read this blog.) Enjoy!

I don't usually add comments on Camille's blog, but Camille's face and smile in this picture are EXACTLY how I will always remember her from when she was a little girl. --Adri

Hello!
So this week was a very busy week. We had 8 baptisms on Saturday which made for a lot of work. It rained a ton that day and I was so nervous about how everything was going to turn out but everything was well planned out and it went beautifully. I am sending a picture of everyone together. I am also sending a beautiful picture of the amazing family that we have been teaching. They are so great! Although they were already an amazing family before we ever taught them, their lives have improved a ton for having accepted the Gospel in their lives. The Dad, Edgardo has changed a lot in particular. He has learned to be a more loving and kind husband and father. Their family is absolutely beautiful and I am so blessed to have been able to share with them.
Juan is another man who is in the big group picture (all the way on the right). He is the owner of the pool hall here in Consti (all of the jóvenes in the ward are excited about that!). It’s crazy how he has changed his life as well.
Well the work is good and I am happy to be doing it! Thanks to everyone for your love and support.
Hermana G.

HOLA,
Well this week was very busy and very out of the ordinary. Really the misión life is like the same thing everyday but at the same time everyday is different. Well Friday was very different. We got to travel 5 ½ hours south to Concepción to hear Elder Oaks speak. No, I did not end up translating for his wife. They actually had a translator with them which put my mind at ease. Anyway, he was an amazing speaker. His words were very inspirational. He spoke a lot about focusing on the work, about finding yourself, and about being instruments in the Lords hands and what it takes to do that. It was so great just to hear his voice. We also all got to meet him and his wife which was awesome. But we weren’t allowed to shake hands because of the swine flu (the Sisters in Concepción had it) so we all bumped elbows instead which was funny. He has an amazingly deep voice and is really funny. So we ended up leaving really late and didn’t make it back to Consti that night. We had to stay the night in the apartment of some Elders in Talca, which is about 2 hours from home. DON’T WORRY…the Elders stayed in another apartment. But it was still weird for us to stay in their place…needless to say it was an experience!! I am sending a picture of the enire misión (I’m in the middle towards the back), of the 4 of us who were in the MTC together, and of me and hermana Egbert (Carol) who is from Rancho.
So the rain finally came this week! Only for 2 days but it completely changed the work! The streets were completely flooded up to our knees. Everyone thought we were crazy and no one wanted to let us in their houses drenched…I think I am going to be doing a LOT of praying this Winter!! But I’m looking forward to it: )
So I am also sending a picture of Clarisa who was recently baptized. Her story is amazing. It is so awesome to see that as people become closer to the Lord, they are able to make changes that they were never able to make before in their lives. Clarisa found the strength to get out of an abusive relationship and is way happier now and confident. I am so happy to have been able to see her transformation. We have a lot of other amazing people we are working with. There is a lot of work to be done here in Consti. Please pray for us!
Un besito a todos: )

6.15.09

Hola,
Primero I want to publicly send Birthday wishes to el Amor de mi vida:
¡Feliz cumpleaños mi sobrinito chiquitito y gordito! Eres la huahuita más bonita de todo el mundo, amorcito. Te quiero con todo mi corazón.
Ahora, I want to publicly send Father’s day wishes to my Papita:
¡Feliz día de Papá, mi papita gordito! Eres el Papá mejor del mundo y te quiero caleta! (Gordito is a term of endearment fyi :).
And finally, I world like to publicly congratulate the best basketball team of all the world for their championship: GO LAAKKKKEERRSSS!! (Don’t worry they didn’t even televise the games in Chile so I wasn’t distracted. Mom and Dad: I hope you keep the championship game on Tivo: )
SO Elder Dallin H Oaks is coming to Concepción and he wants to meet all of the missionaries of our mission and of the Concepción South mission! So we will be travelling about 6 hours by bus (or 3 by car if we can work that out) this Friday! We are all way excited! The mission president called me the other day to see if I could translate for Sister Oaks. He said that of all of the Sisters he thought of me (too bad Hermana Hutchinsons isn’t here!!). I know that this is going to sound horrible but I kind of said no. I didn’t exactly say no. I told him that if they needed me too that I would be happy to do it but that I knew of some other Sisters whose Spanish is better than mine.
The people who are sharing with are doing well! Our one amazing family keeps being amazing. There is this one woman who the other sisters were working with for a long time and we just figured out what her problem really is. It turns out she had an abusive boyfriend. We are helping her to let him go. It is so rewarding to so her progress!
Well I love you all and am sooooo greatful for your support!

Hola All,
So I REALLY wish that I had more time to write because a LOT has happened lately. First and foremost, I found out that I am staying in Constitución for 6 more weeks!! YAY! I couldn’t be happier not only because I absolutely love the people here so much but also because we have people here who are progressing so well and I want to keep working with them. This weekend we saw a complete family get baptized. They really changed their lives around. We worked a lot with the father to help him stop drinking and smoking (hence the picture). So I am happy to be able to stay here with them. I am sad though that my compañera is going home. She was an amazing missionary and I was very blessed to have her as a companion! My new compañera is Hermana Norton. She is in the beach/starfish picture all the way on the right (we went to the beach this morning because it has surprisingly been very warm lately: ). She is amazing as well and I am way excited to work with her.
So I have talked a lot about Mila, this woman we have been teaching who is bedridden and hasn’t seen the light of day for over a month. Lately she hasn’t even been able to sit up so she hasn’t been able to go out in a wheelchair either. On Saturday we went and visited her and she got a blessing of health. On Sunday morning we went to get her for church (to be honest I didn’t really think she was going to be able to come) and she decided that she was going to come and she came! We carried her into the car and used a wheelchair to take her around. It was amazing for her and I was so excited to witness that miracle.
En realidad, I see miracles like that a lot. It’s so crazy and I am so greatful to be a part of what I am doing!
With Love,
Hermana Gamboa

From last Monday 5/25/09

Hola Amigos!
We have been working a lot with this wonderful cute little family of a single dad with his two sons (Joaquin, Francisco and Tomas). They are all wonderful with an amazing faith. We are helping Francisco to stop smoking. And it has definitely not been easy for him. It has been so nice to teach a complete family . . . to see them progress together and see the blessings in their family for it. I hope you can all keep Francisco in your prayers.
We are still teaching Mila and her niece Nataly. Mila is the one who is bedridden because of a bad surgery 10 years ago. She is so positive through everything! This week we came over and cleaned her patio with some members. It was really nice to be able to do something like that for her.
Oh, one funny story . . . so every day we eat at a different house with a different family from the church. Usually they give us a pretty good variety of food, but until Friday, my companera and I ate the same thing 8 days in a row! The SAME exact thing . . . BEANS. It was really funny actually. I think it is because Hermana Hutchinson is a vegitarian and they don't know what else to give us. Luckily they were very yummy.
One more funny story. So hermana hutchinson and I were walking into this part of town called Cintenela where there are a bunch of apartments and we see a big group of people surrounding a squealing pig. At first I thought they were killing it and then I thought that maybe they were just trying to give it medicine or something (there were kids there too so I thought that they couldn't be killing it.) Well my instincts were right. As we were leaving Cintenela we saw that they were cutting it up . . . what an experience!
Well six months now have gone by and I have to say that I am happy to be doing what I am doing :). I love the opportunity I have to bring joy to others. I am proud of the work I have been blessed with and of the changes I am making in my life. I am also very grateful for your love and support!

With love,
Hermana Camila Gamboa

Hello! SO winter here has officially arrived (technically it is still fall but it sure feels like winter). It is COLD and it actually rained the other day. Once it really starts raining I here that I will basically be drenched for 5 straight months. EXCITING. I am very grateful that I only have one winter here in Chile. This week I received some wonderful letters from the young men and young women of the Pacific Palisades ward. Honestly it meant sooooo much to me to get those letters and to read those words. You guys are sooo cute and I am so blessed to have your support. Thanks to Ashley and Beverly and the other leaders who helped to force (lol) the yw-ym write me: ). I absolutely looovvveee receiving letters. They make me feel up when things are down. I just want to say one little thing about families. I am truly blessed to have the family I have back in the states. Many people in Chile don’t understand the importance of them. There are many broken families and I really fee that that is the casue for 90% of the problems down here. It is not very common to find a family with two parents who are married and love each other and love their children. Good Dads are especially hard to find. I hope everyone who has two parents who love them is grateful for what they have. We had a baptism this week. It is so great to see the change in the lives of the people we serve. Honestly this work is so rewarding. Thanks to everyone for their love and support. Mi compañera y yo estamos super bien aqui en Chile! Con Amor, Hermana Gamboa

From 4.27

Hello Everyone, Well I wish I had some more cute missionary stories to share but sadly I don’t. (Or maybe I do I just am so used to seeing miracles that I forget to write about them). I would like to say that I am very blessed to be doing what I am doing and to be doing it down here in Chile. It is such an amazing blessing to see the people that I have helped progress and by steady and healthy temporally and spiritually. Honestly there is no greater joy than helping people in this way.
With Love,
Hermana Gamboa

Hola,
Well today is my last day with Hermana Wheatley...lagrima...I am really going to miss her. My new compañera’s name is Hermana Hutchinson. I don’t know very much about her except that she is from New Hampshire (close to Lake Winapasake for those of you who have seen What about Bob), that she is a little bit serious, that she has a beautiful singing voice, and that she speaks spanish very well. I am excited to improve my singing and my spanish. I am also excited because I hear she is a very hard worker and there is much to be done here in Consti! Oh, and she is a vegeterian...I don’t know how she survives here in Chile but I am excited that they will have to start serving us more veggies!
It is so nice to see the fruits of our labor every once in a while! This week we had two different families cry and tell us that our coming to visit them has made their families more united and more peaceful. That was so nice to hear. One of them was the family of Benjamín. We met his mom in a colectivo (a bus-type thing) by some miracle and started to visit them. Benjamín was baptized yesterday and his whole family was crying. Their family has really come together in the last few months that we have been meeting with them.
Well, that is pretty much all of the news of this week! I am going to send some pictures and I hope they actually go through this time! I love you all a lot. I hope that you all remember to count your blessings and reflect on where they come from!

Hello All!
So I only have one more week with Hermana Wheatley!! Sad!! She is finishing her mission and going home soon: (. It was really great being her compañera...I learned a lot from her and will really miss her.
Well this week was full of interesting stories. To start of, the other day we were eating lunch at the house of a family from the church when I started itching my head a little bit. I have had some skin problems with the change in climate and everything but the woman we ate with insisted that I must have lice (it is very common down here). So that night we went home and began to check our heads. I had lice once as a little girl and actually have a really good memory of what it was like, so I knew what to look for. I checked my hair and had Hermana Wheatley check my hair as well and LUCKILY, no i did not have it. But then as a joke almost, Hermana Wheatley brushed her hair with fine come and what did she discover, but a little bug! So I looked in her head and saw literally hundreds of eggs! We woke up early the next morning to buy shampoo and I have spent every morning and night since pulling out eggs from her head! It is now a lot better and by some miracle I still don’t have lice!
I don’t think I have mentioned this before, but I sink in front of people literally ALL the time down here. Their isn’t very much musical education down here so when they hear a half-trained voice they think it is amazing...lucky me! So I sing at church, baptisms, firesides, conferences, etc. Usually it is in a trio or duet. Crazy, huh?
So I would like to talk a little bit about Gastón. He is a 55 year old Chilean man with a big heart and a lot of personality. He was one of the first people that I met here in Chile and the first person to get baptized in the church (back in January). He used to be an alcoholic but through a lot of prayer and faith COMPLETELY changed his life before the baptism. Well, last Saturday night he went out with some friends and when someone offered him a drink, he decided that just one wouldn’t be bad so he had one. Well one drink is NEVER one drink for an alcoholic. He literally spent 24 hours a day drunk from Sunday until Thursday. People had told us about his relapse, but on Wednesday night we actually encountered him in the streets. It was SO hard for me to see him like that. I tried so hard not to but I actually started crying (which believe or not was my first time crying in the mission). I just had seen such a big change in him that it was too hard for me to see him. He saw my reaction and in a drunken stupor asked me to forgive him and told me he loved me. He tried to hug me but by that point I was no longer sad, I was mad at him. We walked him to his house and left.
So we spent the entire rest of the week praying and fasting for him. We have so much love for him and a TON of faith. On Saturday night we went by his house which was empty. His niece who lives nearby came out to tell us that she had him locked in a room in her house since Thursday and that he could not come out to see us. We were grateful to hear that because we knew that that might be the only way to help him. She said she was planning on letting him out Sunday night. On Sunday morning at church we gathered a bunch of his new friends together and told them about the situation. We decided that we all wanted to be their to support him when he was let out. So gathered at his place at 7. He came out looking very sick (he hasn’t eaten or slept in days). We all hugged him, told him we loved him and were their for him, that relapses are normal but that we were going to do everything we could to help him. We prayed for him and dried for him. When we left he was smiling and very animated to do better. His nephew who is also a new member of the church spent all night with him last night. We have people visiting him almost every day. I have a strong testimony of repentance and I know that people can change their lives know matter how hard they fall. I have a ton of faith that Gastón will fully recover.
So Adri asked me about what we do here on Pdays. Usually on Pdays we just do emails and shopping and relax a little but sometimes we do something fun. The rest of the missionaries live at least 2 hours away but sometimes we travel over there and play games and eat together. Today we decided to go out to the countryside (about 30 minutes away). There are some members of the church who have a home out there by a beautiful river. I will send pictures next week. We went with a group of 20 somethings from Chile and we also invited Gastón. I think it was good for him to take in some fresh country air. It was a lot of fun.
The other day the church had an activity where everyone brought a dessert and we had a contest to see whose was the best. In January Donald had sent me a carrot cake mix with cream cheese frosting for my birthday. I never ended up using it but decided that this was the perfect occaison! We ended up using it to make a 3 layer cake with dulce de leche in between each layer...yum!! And we won 3rd place (out of about 30!). Everyone wants the recipe...haha. Thanks Donald!
Well thanks to everyone for their love and support. Especially the Pali Ward YW! I finally got your letters (woo-hoo!).

2.16.09

Hello!
¡Feliz día de los enamorados! It is actually a huge holiday down here. Lots of couples and roses and a huge show in the plaza. I avoided every part of it... Actually we had 4 baptisms on valentines day. One of the girls, Angie who is 12, was crying the whole time because she was so happy. It was so great to see the joy that the gospel has brought to their lives.
So on Monday night we went over to a family’s house that we are meeting with and made brownies with them. No one in Chile has ever heard of brownies and they are always soooo amazed by them. This humble little family doesn’t have a sink, a pan, and hardly any food in their kitchen, so we had to be really inventive. In the end they actually turned out pretty good. The family was sooo grateful.
Well, mission life is going well. I am keeping very busy but finding time to be silly too. I love you all and I am so greatful for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I hope you are all remembering to pray everyday: )

2/2/09

Hello!

Well it has been another amazing week! I am so happy to be here in Chile!

La Nuevita

So the other companionship in our house was changed. Hermana Stapp, a blonde, blue-eyed girl from Alaska, used to be with Hermana Quilca, from Peru, but Hermana Quilca left and now we have another blonde! She is called Hermana Norton. And she is REALLY new and hardly speaks Spanish at all. So now everyone calls ME the Latina, because I am the only brunette and have Latina blood. It's funny. It's really crazt to see this new girl and remember how I was when I first got here in Chile almost 7 weeks ago. I am sooooo happy that I came here speaking Spanish. I honestly thought that I didn't speak Spanish and would apologize to everyone about how bad it was and they would always tell me that it was actually very good. They would tell me that they couldn't believe that I was new in Chile because I wasn't afraid to talk to whoever about whatever. I didn't see what they meant until now. Now I see what a blessing it is to be able to speak the language.

Bichos Galore

So the other day we were visiting with a cute little family that lives in the humblest of houses when all of the sudden we were attacked by a swarm of bugs. I am not exaggerating. Because their house is made up of some pieces of wood and some nails, there are lots of little holes where bugs can come in. And here we were sitting around talking and all of the sudden in came in honestly hundreds of bugs. They were EVERYWHERE. All over our books and our clothes, in our hair, on the gound. The 3-year-old daughter got up and started to squash them. It was actually really funny. I couldn't stop laughing. We ended up having to leave early. What an experience!

Breaking Out

So the other day when the other girls in the house left they locked the door from the outside. So when we left we realized that we had no way of getting out. Without even thinking, I took off my shoes and jumped from the window in the kitchen to the balcony, a few feet to the right. We live on the 3rd floor. After I did it I realized that it wasn't a smart idea. But . . I survived!

I love you all and am so grateful for the support. You have NO idea how much it means to me.

From last week . . . catchin up, I promise!

Benito's Baptism:

The Zone:

Hello,
Well our little abuelito Benito was baptized. Everyone is so excited for him because he is just so happy to have encountered the gospel. I am so blessed to see the changes that it makes in the lives of others. He is so incredibly happy these days and when we first found him he was very sad. I honestly think he is the most popular person in the Ward. At the end of his baptism, the bishop was at the pulpit saying his ‘welcome to the ward’ speech. He was talking about how God’s love and the love of the church members for Benito and Benito started Bowling. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house: ). I will never forget his smile. It was honestly bigger than his face.
Thanks to everyone for Keeping me in their prayers! I am so blessed down in Chile because of it!
Lots of Love,
A perfectly healthy Hermana Gamboa
PS Congrats to Cindy Thomas for her misión call!

From Jan 19, 2009

Sorry I'm a little late posting this!

Pics from Gaston and Paty's baptism:

Service Project for Benito:

Hello all,

I hope you are all doing well and I hope you all realize what a blessing it is to live in the USA :) .

Dos Bautismos
So this week, two investigators that we were teaching were baptized! Paty and Gaston. They are both such strong people with big desires to serve the Lord. It is so great to see how the gospel has changed their lives. Both of them are so happy and have such strong testimonies of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We actually met Gaston my first day here. He was outside of his house smoking when I felt the desire to start talking to him. He has changed his life completely in only a month. He calls me his Hermana Gamboita. Oh, and sorry to say, Gaston looks nothing like the Beauty and the Beast Gaston. Haha.
So every time there is a baptism, something HAS to go wrong. Either they can't find the baptism clothes, or the keys to the baptismal font, or someone has to go out of town last minute, or someone's family or friend tells them bad things about the church . . . it is always something. WELL, with Gaston and Paty everything seemed to be going right. Everything was well planned out and everyone was excited and organized and ready. THEN, Saturday I started to feel a little sick . . . we walked a TON that day in the sun and were fasting for the day. When we returned to the house I felt worse. I ended up spending the night in the bathroom throwing up Saturday night . . . it wasn't fun. I spend most of Sunday sleeping and in a daze. I could hardly even walk when I woke up. I kept praying all morning that I would be able to go to the baptism. I woke up at round 12 with just enough strength to get myself ready for the baptism. With the Lord's help, I was able to take pictures (though my face was swollen) watch the baptism, to congratulate Gaston and Paty, and then return to sleep the rest of the day. In the last 24 hours, I have slept for 16 hours! I woke up this morning almost 100% better! I am so blessed that the sickness was brief and that nothing went wrong with the baptism!

Dulce de Leche/Manjar
Down here the dulce de leche is called manjar. It tastes pretty much the same (But I can't lie, it's a little better in Argentina). The other day I decided that I was going to make some. So I did. It was yummy.

Espanol
My spanish must be getting better because every time I talk lately, someone says, "Wow, she speaks way better than the other hermana." I always feel bad because the truth is that my companera speaks better, I have just been improving and my accent is pretty good now. Sometimes they don't believe I am from the States. But then I start speaking a lot and they realize that I still commit mistakes. My companera is still way better at understanding the Crazy Chileans. I think I am starting to speak like them a little though. Oops.
Oh, and it is always way funny to me that the Chileans never believe that my companera and I are from the same country. Hoe can that be when we look so different?? Then I explain to them that I am part Mexican by ancestry. And then they get all confused... how can I be BOTH gringa AND latina?? It is really funny to see their reactions.

Well I love you all and am so grateful for your love and support!

Hermana Gamboita :)

Gaston and Paty

Camille's first contact, Gaston, and his wife Paty are set to be baptized this weekend! (Camille told us this in a separate letter.) Keep them in your prayers! And here is a VERY old picture of our missionary:

A Good Birthday

So this was another fabulous week. I had a really great birthday to start off. I got 3 Christmas packages the day after! Thank you to Donald, to Webb Knudsen and family, and to my wonderful family! I definitely have enough candy to last the whole year through! The members here also did a lot to make my birthday special. And my roommates. It was a very productive day, and since I LOVE productivity, it was really great!

On Saturday we had the chance to clean up the house of an old man named Benito. I think I've talked about him before. He basically hadn't cleaned his house in over 5 years and he has 5 pets . . . just imagine the dirtiest house you have ever seen and then multiply that by 10 . . . ya. But it was such a huge blessing to be able to serve him. He felt so much love it was awesome. He has decided to get baptized as well. His baptism is set for the 25th.

I'm sorry I didn't have time to write emails this week! I didn't even have time to read most of them sadly! But I am so blessed to have love and support from everyone. I love you all very much and pray for you daily.

New Years in Chile

Hello everyone,

So just when I was thinking that I hadn't seen any pulgas yet (fleas), I woke up one morning to see all kinds of blood spots all over my shirt and sheets! eeeeeeeeeewwwwwww. I showered myself in bug spray and haven't had the problem since. I have a different but related problem though . . . little girls. I think little girls have always liked me, but here in Chile they are like pulgas when I walk down the street. They are cute and I am not complaining, but sometimes it is a little overwhelming. They stare a lot. And hug me randomly. And call me tia. It is funny.

It to amazes me to see the Chileans and their faith. They are so different than Americans. ALL of them (ok, I know I haven't met all the people in Chile, but too bad I am going to generalize in this email) have an incredible faith in Jesus Christ. Every single one that I have met testifies with all of their heart that He lived. And they are so sincere. They believe it 100%, you can feel it and see it in their eyes. I have so much respect for them when it comes to that. I wish I could be more like that.

New Years here was good, but just a normal day for the most part. We were all dead asleep at midnight! I have never slept so soundly in my life as I do on the mission. All the other Chileans were out partying : )

Well, that is it for now,
